2012 SWOSSAA Track and Field

The 2012 SWOSSAA Track and Field Championships took place in Chatham on Wednesday and at the University of Windsor’s Alumni Field on Thursday. Conditions were just about perfect for this year’s championship, allowing for a few new records to be set during the two day meet.

The 2012 WECSSAA Track and Field Championships were held at University of Windsor’s Alumni Field this week. Sandwich Secondary took gold in the overall team rankings, while Vincent Massey finished with silver and Belle River grabbed bronze.

Quite a few different records were set over the three-day championships: Villlanova’s Connor Rosaasen set the new midget boys WECSSAA 100 metre record at 11.27, while Herman’s Brandon McBride and Massey’s Brianne Bracci set records in the senior boys and midget girls 800 metre races.

I was lucky enough to be apart of the project and in turn built stronger friendships with the other photogs on the tour and even made some fantastic portfolio worthy images. Now for the video…

Back to Bloggin’/World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

So it’s been a while since my last entry and I’m a little rusty at this, so here goes nothin’. It seems the best way to get back into the groove is to just write about what I’ve been up to and post a few photos along with it. Since December I’ve been shooting sports quite frequently, hockey, basketball and even some figure skating… I went down to Florida in search of some birds and made out like a bandit (next blog post)… Needless to say it’s been a great start to the year.

During the Christmas break the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge was held in Windsor and knowing this in advance I signed up for a press pass to cover for Our Windsor/ Metroland Media. With the pass I was given just about every luxury you can imagine and the ability to roam the rinks as I wished. At the WFCU Centre there’s a catwalk in the rafters and after signing a liability waiver I was let loose. It was scary at first, but even scarier was dangling a 70-200 2.8 over the edge to get the shots.

It sure was a treat picking up international jerseys and considering these are some of the best 17-year old hockey players out there, chances are these photos will be resurrected and given new life in the future.

My web designer and I were discussing the best method of presenting photos, and came across Smugmug.com. This is where I plan on transferring my files, as they take care of the printing/shipping, I can focus on acquiring more shots. Still working through some kinks, but here’s an example of how it will look.

New Orleans: St. Louis Cemetery #1

On day two of the No Workshop Tour: New Orleans, we visited a few different cemeteries around the area. The first one we went to was St. Louis Cemetery #1. After a half hour or so of wandering the grounds I looked back to see the van pulling away toward the gate, so I started walking toward it. A few seconds later it started to leave the cemetery, so I decided to run like the wind. Not knowing where exactly where I was at and stuck there alone with all my gear would have been fatal!. As I darted out from the cemetery, I pelted through traffic in search of the group. Halfway across the road I seen the van pulled over, and all heads inside looking back with grins. As I got closer to the vehicle, I seen Bryce filming the entire thing, after shooting the camera a foul look, I arrived at the side door to see the group sitting there ready to burst out laughing… I smiled and said “Howdy”. Ron bought me a coke afterward to extend an olive branch of peace, although I wasn’t too upset about the whole thing, I accepted the beverage. Good times and glad I could provide some comedy to the trip!

New Orleans: Oak Alley Plantation

On the last day of the tour, the group decided to visit Oak Alley Plantation, 60 miles away from N.O. and about halfway to Baton Rouge. The drive was a great chance to see some true Louisiana swamplands, and the plantation was a delightful tour of life in the ‘old south’. Here’s the gallery.
